Deon, Ms. McWhorter's class
We read the book Little Blue and Little Yellow by Leo Lionni and learned that mixing colors can make new colors. Students then made a print with blue ink and another over it with yellow. They saw the layers of ink mix together to make the color green. Deon did a wonderful job layering the colors to make green.

Esteban V., 3rd grade
Third grade students studied several self-portraits by the artist Frida Kahlo. They learned through her paintings how an artist can use pose, expression, clothes, setting and other details in a portrait to comminucate something about themselves. Students then learned how to draw themselves using proper proportion. They considered what clothing, expression and details they would add to their self-portrait to express personal interests, personality, or feelings. What do you think Esteban's self-portrait says about him? Alexis, 5th grade
Students in 5th grade studied contour lines. Alexis was very observant, and worked hard to include all the folds she saw in the leather boot she drew. She took on an extra challenge, and worked to create the shadows she she saw in the folds of her boot. Alejandra, 1st grade
Students studied the art of Gustav Klimt and learned about the concept of variety in art. They drew themselves snuggled under a crazy quilt with a variety of patterns. Using crayons, they created a variety of patterns, then finished their art with watercolor. Alejandra made the pillow behind her head look almost like a halo. She really made her picture stand out by using a beautiful variety of curved shapes and colors in the background. Estefania, 5th grade
Students in 5th grade learned about using contour lines to draw an object from observation. They also explored Op Art, learning how artists use lines and colors to create illusions, then tried their hand at making diagonal lines bend in their Op Art backgrounds for their shoe drawings. |
