RJ, 5th Grade
Fifth grade students are learning about the color wheel and color theory. After making a color wheel using crayons to mix secondary colors and tertiary colors, students turned their color wheel into a work of art. RJ decided to turn his into an umbrella on a stormy day.

Jaden, 3rd grade
Third graders learned through the art of Frida Kahlo that portraits tell us something about the sitter through the details, facial expression and pose. Students then learned how to draw a portrait in proportion. After drawing themselves, they added details in the background that expressed their interests or personality. The then colored it in using blending with crayons. Kindergarten students
These super adorable turkey hats were made by some Kindergartners getting ready for their Thanksgiving musical. (They even hand-painted the colorful paper for the turkey feathers.) Students learned that costume designers make outfits for people in plays, musicals and movies. We talked about the connection between art and music, and how costumes can help the audience identify a character. I cannot wait to see their performance next week in their costumes under the direction of our amazing music teacher, Ms. Jetton! Everyone! K to 5 Each grade level learned little something new and applied their knowledge and skill to make artwork for Veteran's Day. Fifth learned how to use line and color to make a simple Op Art piece that looks like the stripes of a flag waving. Fourth grade used the principle of emphasis and the element of value to paint stars in blue. Third learned how artists use scale and proportion to enlarge a work of art. Second grade made textured papers using a technique called grattage, then used the paper to collage eagles. First grade learned what the word symbol means, and learned that poppies are a symbol of remembrance for our veterans. They then stamped poppies with their fingers. And finally, the Kindergarten made the fun line sculptures in red, white and blue after Mrs. May's class
This week, Mrs. May's class read Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons with me. Afterwards, students colored in his shirt yellow after practicing signing yellow in ASL. They then mended it by putting his four groovy buttons back in place. Students added his head by pasting shapes down in the correct places and drawing a few whiskers and eyes. Pete (x9) is looking good! Lucas, 1st Grade
The first grade has been learning about positive shape and negative space. Lucas made a wonderful collage of leaves using the positive shapes of leaves and the negative spaces he created when he cut the shapes from construction paper. |
